Honestly, last year 3ds Max and 3d modeling were my favorite parts of the course. This year, htings have gotten cooler, but it's also gotten worse in some regards.
First of all, it's a heck-of-a-lot more buggy. Last year, there would be the occasional hick-up in the software. Maybe something doesn't render correctly, or maybe 3ds max would take a lot more time to open up, but it would be less common than it is now. Take, for example, last week's rendering screw-up. Everyone's computers bugged out and the quality of the render was set much lower than usual. And, specifically for me, half the times I try to open the program, it starts loading, with that little screen showing its progress, but crashes after a few minutes. This sets back my work by a lot, but its partially manageable. Another reason it's pretty crazy is that it is kind of hard to apply certain textures to certain objects. It's time consuming to have to assign a different part of a material to every single polygon. And since we have only 50-minute school days, that's nearly impossible to do. Of course, I didn't realize we didn't have to texture each window, door, and roof separately on the "Won't You Be My Neighbor" project, so I tried to do just that. I found out that I would have to apply each polygon in the object a different material node, and apply each separately afterwards. I think that it would be much easier if I were able to just select the polygon I wanted within the object and apply the material straight from there. However, I know that this is probably a very difficult feature to have, but I think that it would be extremely helpful. This year so far has been pretty fun, and I have enjoyed about 9/10 of the work, minus the organic sketches. I look forward to most of the year to come and I hope we get to continue doing fun things like the Wild West city from the 1st quarter. In conclusion:
